Oil on canvas, 2018

It was quite the journey for Adelaide to get to this creation! After a huge move from the bustling city to the stillness of the trees, this creation was at last able to come through on canvas.  A transformation  One guided by the wisdom of the moon and the intuitive light that can only be seen in the darkest of nights.

Flown in on the wings of her moth totem,  Adelaide began to soak in the nectar of her woodsy surroundings while creating this piece. Here, she was able to appreciate on new levels the way flowers glow and dance towards the sun, the way bee's spread the buzzzzz in the air, and the way the moon shines back the deepest reflection of what the inner sight already knows. This painting is one of those self-portraits that shines through in her art every few years, as if to say, "Here I am now." They always seem to be a breakthrough piece in both concept and technique, which often evolves mysteriously after months of focusing on others commissions or not painting at all. The emphasis on the moth carries deep meaning in this creation! Its muse was a dried out, dead moth in perfect condition that sat on the cabin porch and effortlessly persuaded Adelaide to move into that very cabin only 6 months later. She had walked down to the cabin (on her brother's property) with the question in mind, "Could I live here?" The moth welcomed her and she did not even need to open the doors to receive her answer. The moth from there on was a great teacher. Like a moth, Adelaide had started to feel distracted by the uncountable city lights that through off her inner compass. Like the moths' natural orient, Adelaide decided to move closer to and in alignment with the moon and the stars; closer to that deep illuminated sense of knowing one can only find when your willing to travel great distances in the vast darkness. Although a self-portrait the moth takes the attention in this piece, also severing as a type of mask. Entering a more reclusive lifestyle, Adelaide wore this "mask" to both hide from the site of many and to help her see through the night. In many ways it represents all masks, including the mask of the ego, which she began to take off and on... and off again. Perspective changes everything! The 2 faces in the painting illustrate different perspectives. They are symmetrical in the general composition yet also very different and unique; perhaps you may find one more masculine and other more feminine!? "Not perfectly symmetrical yet balanced" was Adelaide's motto while painting this creation. This mirrored the whimisical, and uneven cabin she recently re-modeled, as her creative home studio.

If you look closely at the piece you will notice that it's far from a perfect mirror of itself, yet it still feels orderly and balanced. To Adelaide, this is the art of Fung Shui OR the Fung Shui of Art;). Just like nature, everything finds a way to flow and/or evolve. The wind blows through the petals, the pollen attracts, the bees bring the hive together, the moon cycles through and what doesn't move decomposes into anew. The organic alchemy of nature is strong in this creation! Does it give you goosebumps?!?
