This piece titled, ‘Strength and Vulnerability,’ expresses the co-existence of dualities and the hidden strings of the relentless yet tender heart. The figure’s pose is both closed and opened. With every gesture is a conversation, and perhaps even in the ‘closed’ body language, such as her fastened hand, there is an invitation for empathy. Perhaps she is saying, “I am lonely” and in this way she is sharing something real, raw and relatable. Her spread palm is expressing a clear flow of energy coming from the healing point/chakra in the hand. This conveys her receptiveness and openness, though it may bring with it the invitation for even unwelcomed energies, which can return to the cycle of closing up to protect the heart. In every 'good' there is danger and in every 'bad' there is a treasure. The spectrum! As the saying goes, 'even too much cake makes you sick'. Nothing is all good or all bad. Life is a delicate balance in the acceptance and honoring of yourself in each passing moment. THAT…. is one this piece is about!
Similar to the famous Artist Frida Kahlo, Adelaide paints her inner world. Beyond using art as a way to share thoughts and ideas, for Adelaide art is a medium for processing the intensity of this world. This sketch originated from a deep ache, the heart pulled in many directions. However, after being put on pause and retouched at various points (throughout months) it inevitably began to personify a fuller expression of human emotion! The straight-forward bare breasts combined with a coy facial look-away blend the sentiment of shyness yet a willingness to be seen in naked woman-ness. The blood also honors the sacred feminine and the natural cycles that affect our mood, confidence and physical state though often are shamed and hidden. This creation allows for it to be seen. for strength and vulnerability to be seen. It embodies the feeling of a free heart matched by the desire to revert and hide. Perhaps in hiding, we can find new pARTs of ourselves to share and old patterns to shatter. Perhaps the hiding is not all bad and the shining is not all good. In honor of life and death, balance and authenticity, this piece is as deep or as light as a feather as you would like it to be:)
